Barely a fortnight to the presidential election, the Director General of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign organisation in Gombe State, Alhaji Bala Bello Tinka has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defection was made known by the Special Adviser to the President, Femi Adesina, who disclosed that Alhaji Tinka reversed his stance when he met with President Muhammadu Buhari at State House, Abuja, on the night of Thursday, January 31, where he pledged allegiance to the APC, and also vowed to bring his political weight to bear on the re-election of the President.
The defection of Alhaji Tinka poses a weakening to the PDP in Gombe. According to Vanguard, PDP currently governs the state, and has done so since 2003.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari will be campaigning in Gombe on Saturday, February 2, and Alhaji Tinka is expected to formally join the APC, alongside others during the event.
