On Sunday, November 22, the families of Mr./Mrs. Ndongesit Bassey Effeh were all joy as they testified of God’s gracious visitation to them after having waited for close to 8 years.
At an elaborate and well attended thanksgiving service which held at the auditorium of the Nigerian Christian Bible College (NCBC), the couple, alongside their families and friends could not hold back the excitement of baby Onofiok as they sent praises and worship to the highest heaven.
A Church of Christ faithful, the new father, Mr. Ndongesit Bassey Effeh who was visibly overwhelmed with ecstasy, recalled with blissful memory how he met his wife 7 years back at her home State in Gombe, and their decision to get married.
He informed that they had planned to begin child-bearing 4-5 years after their marriage to enable her complete her educational pursuit. The plan according to him however turned sour when they had to start trying and waiting long after the expiration of their planned timing.
Describing the wait as a long but hopeful one, Effeh revealed that he was worried at some point while trying also to calm his wife down. “I was especially concerned about my wife because she is not from here. The shame and ridicule she went through was much but I’m happy she was matured enough to manage the situation”, he expressed.
Rather than losing his faith, the proud father revealed that the situation increased his faith in God, with trust that He would have his heart desire granted one day. “Although people advised me to go to several means to get it but I knew very well that the only source of children is God”, he said.
While thanking his family and his wife’s for standing by them through their stormy moment, the evangelist recalled that there was no occasion of pressure from both families concerning the issue. “They rather joined voices and hearts together to God. they were so encouraging”, he said.
He expressed gratitude to brethren and friends for coming to share in their joy and prayed same blessings on those waiting on God. He however advised that couples facing similar challenges should do the needed health examinations to be sure of possible self-causes of it and seek appropriate medical solutions while waiting faithfully on God. “Once we are unable to follow-up on our health status, we might think that something else or another power is against us when actually it’s not”.
Speaking on the rationale behind the baby’s name, Onofiok; Mr. Ndogesit Effeh revealed that God alone knows the child, how he would grow and what he would become, as well as why He had to make them wait that long before the child came.
Expressing her emotions, the new mother, Mrs. Christiana Ndongesit Bassey was full of eulogies to God. She was particularly thankful for a safe natal journey and a hitch-free delivery. “It wasn’t an easy journey but it has ended in praise”, she noted. While thanking her family and in-laws for understanding with them, she advised couples experiencing delay in childbearing to have “long patience” and believe that with God, nothing is impossible. “I call the baby ‘Ponyamba’, meaning God’s gift in my dialect”, she stated.
The event which coincided with their 8th Year marriage Anniversary was celebrated with the cutting of the Anniversary cake and prayers by Ministers, families, friends and well-wishers.
