OBA Petitions Senate over Politically Motivated Arrest and Intimidation in Akwa Ibom

Senator Bassey Albert (OBA), representing Akwa Ibom North East (Uyo) Senatorial District in the Senate, and Leader of Akwa Ibom PDP Caucus in the National Assembly presented a petition to the senate on the atrocities committed by AIG Kimo of Zone 6, CP Ibrahim Kaoje, CSP Udeme Brown and SP Idorenyin Akpabio regarding the killings, politically-motivated arrest, intimidation and illegal detention, as well as trumped-up charges against innocent Akwa Ibom people.

The re-elected Senator submitted the petition to the Senate when it resumed plenary on Wednesday, March 13, informing the Senate of the brutal torture, arrests and politically motivated killings of Akwa Ibom people by aforementioned people.

Senator Albert said ”About 300 indigenes of the State are currently languishing in various cells on trumped-up charges in Akwa Ibom.

According to the Senator, four officers of the Nigerian police, namely AIG Kimo, former Commissioner of police in the State, CP Ibrahim Kaude, CSP Brown and one SP Idorenyin Akpabio, a cousin to Senator Godswill Akpabio must be brought to book for the insecurity of lives in the state.

OBA at the plenary

Senator Albert who submitted a statement he made to the police to the Senate said that 18 buses loaded with 210 thugs were sent from Edo State by the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole to cause mayhem during the elections, but were accosted on their way to Ikot Ekpene based on intelligence reports.

He said they were however released on the orders of AIG Kimo and escorted to the campaign ground of the APC Candidate, Nsima Ekere by SP Idorenyin Akpabio, Senator Akpabio’s cousin.

“These four officers are going about killing our people. They boasted that they were sent to kill our people and deliver Akwa Ibom to APC”, Senator Albert stressed.

He maintained that the said officers must be brought to book for infringing on the rights of innocent people.
