Today, September 23, 2021 effuses unbounded glee as we mark the 34th anniversary of Akwa Ibom State.
Our joy is deepened by the ever refreshing recollections of the foresights, heroic exploits, tenacious and embedded sense of communality exuded by our forebears in championing the State until it was created on September 23, 1987.
What is more, the birth of Akwa Ibom State exactly 20 years after the first creation exercise in 1967 and 60 years after our forebears envisioned the idea in 1927, further accentuates the significance of the anniversary.
Gratifyingly, Akwa Ibom’s creation as Nigeria’s 21st State berthed our long desired political identity within the Nigerian Federation as well as set in motion socio-economic development as evident in our continuing journey of statehood.
As we mark the 34th anniversary, we owe ourselves a duty to reflect on and imbibe the selflessness, oneness and sacrifices evident in the lives of the great men and women in our political history who toiled to bequeath to us the Akwa Ibom State that we now have and cherish. It demands therefore that we must continue on that set path by putting the interests of the State first and foremost at all times.
Going forward, we must reinvent a united front – from the leadership to the stakeholders, nay the people to broaden our perspectives on all aspects of development so as to achieve a better and prosperous society for the now and the future.
Our journey so far has been worthwhile and we offer our wholehearted appreciation to the Almighty God for the abiding grace upon Akwa Ibom State.
We commend successive leaderships of our State from 1987 till date for their commitment in giving meaning to the state creation exercise by laying solid foundation towards the wellbeing and development of Akwa Ibom State namely: Tunde Ogbeha; Godwin Abbe; Idongesit Nkanga; Akpan Isemin; Yakubu Bako; Joseph Adeusi; John Ebiye; Victor Attah and Godswill Akpabio.
We also specifically applaud Governor Udom Emmanuel for consolidating on the performances of past leaders as well as accelerating the tempo of development as so far witnessed in the state.
We believe that beyond our current successes and the challenges we may face at the present, a future with boundless prospects surely beckons. We must therefore, more than ever, work together with abiding faith in God, to build the State and empower our people.
We must leverage on our enormous natural and human resources to attain our desired goals and aspirations as much as possible.
Let me therefore on behalf of my wife, Pastor (Mrs) Imaobong Nkeiru Albert, Family and constituents of Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District, heartily felicitates with my Governor, His Excellency, Mr Udom Emmanuel and the entire people of Akwa Ibom State on our 34th anniversary.
Surely that same God – ever faithful, will make all things possible in due season as the scripture says, “Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit,” – Leviticus 26:4.
Best wishes Akwa Ibomites!
