Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title hopeful, Akwa United football club of Uyo, moves to second on the table with a 1-2 win over Heartland Football Club, at the Okigwe Township Stadium, Owerri, Imo State.
Goals from striker Ndifreke Effiong and Mfon Udoh gave the Promise Keepers a deserved victory over their host.
The two time Federation cup champions started the game brightly and got the opening goal after just four minutes of play, with Ndifreke Effiong scoring with assist from strike partner, Udoh.
Chidiebere Ajoku equalised in the 57 minutes for Heartland from Felix Osia’s pass.
But NPFL record scorer, Mfon Udoh ensured the away side went home with maximum points, curling a beautiful strike off Cyril Olisema’s pass to restore parity. The goal was the strikers’ eight of the campaign and move Akwa United to within two points of leaders, FC Ifeanyi Ubah.
Akwa United has been in blistering form this season after a poor start to the campaign.
