The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige has come under attack for saying that doctors who feel they want to relocate in search of greener pastures are free to do so as the nation has enough medical personnel.
Dr. Ngige stated this on Wednesday, April 24 on Sunrise Daily, a news and current affairs programme on Channels Television.
The comment by the Minister has caused stirred reactions on social media. Here are reactions of Nigerians on Twitter:

What type of arrogance is this? We have enough doctors? Is that why your boss, President @Mbuhari, spent 1 year and 39 days abroad, including over 6 months in a UK clinic? This government is a punishment on the Nigerian people #FreeLeahSharibu #RenosDarts
the Morris Monye factor @monye_morris
How Chris Ngige- one of the most respected governors in S.East Nigeria suddenly became a source of ridicule in this govt has to be the single biggest mystery of governance! From saying minumum wage is enough for a family of 4…. now doctors can leave Nigeria (Surplus doctors).

“Who said we don’t have enough doctors? We have more than enough. You can quote me. There is nothing wrong in them travelling out. When they go abroad, they earn money and send them back home here.”

Prof Isaac Adewole and Dr Chris Ngige both swore the Hippocratic Oath. But they feel that patient to doctor ratio of 6000:1 is okay

Chris Ngige just spoke like a normal Igbo man in Alaba or Auto parts market that sees nothing wrong in the country as long as his containers are cleared. What a waste! Buhari should do better in the second term!

Maupe: “There seems to be a brain drain in the medical sector..aren’t you concerned that we could be facing a crisis or shortage of hands in the medical field..” Chris Ngige (Labour): “I’m not concerned at all, I’m not worried, we are surplus, if you have surplus you export..”

Chris Ngige, Nigeria’s minister of Labour & Employment, says on Channels TV’s ‘Sunrise Daily’ that Nigeria has surplus medical doctors, that’s why many are going overseas to practice. Incredible! @BusinessDayNg @OdinakaAnudu
I agree with Dr. Chris Ngige that we have enough medical doctors. Tbh, the number of unemployed doctors are rising everyday. Availability, mobilization of jobs as well as conducive equipment, environment to work is the problem and i think his ministry has a part to play in that.

There are about 70,000 registered Doctors in Nigeria. More than 35,000 of them are not practicing in Nigeria. They have left the country. This is from the minister of health himself.

The people in this government are primed to tell lies and make the gullible ones believe all is well in the country. They will never admit to anything that will expose their incompetence, which is why chris ngige is out here saying we have surplus medical doctors in nigeria, smh

Chris Ngige used to be admirable and charismatic.. Whatever happened … Sigh!
