Mrs. Blessing Mkpah Restores joy on Birthday
…Gives financial support, clothing to Patients and Vulnerable
Wife of the Chairman, Ibeno Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Mrs. Blessing Mkpah on Tuesday, July 7, 2021 was at the Cottage Hospital in Ibeno to restore the joy of financially handicapped patients and the vulnerable.
At the low-key event which was attended by Wives of all Local Government Chairmen of Nigeria (WALGON), Akwa Ibom State chapter, Mrs. Mkpah empathized with the patients and charged them to adhere to medical prescriptions for their quick recovery.
Moved by the plight of patients in the female ward, the First Lady gave them wrappers and cash to support their treatment while praying God’s speedy healing on them.
One of the patients who struck Mrs. Mkpah was an infant, Little Miss Success Aniefiok who was due for blood transfusion but could not be transfused due to unavailability of funds. The First Lady immediately gave out the required amount of money and ordered that action be taken immediately by the Hospital to save her life. Overwhelmed by the gesture, Success’ mother, Miss Elizabeth Afahaeme and Grandmother, Mrs. Mary Afahaeme rained God’s blessings on the First Lady and wished her well in all endeavors.
Another patient who got a special dose of Mrs. Mkpah’s humanity was Mrs. Grace Sunday, a pregnant woman who was battling malaria. The First Lady who stood at her bedside for a while expressed strong concerns for her welfare and assured that she would be fine. “Don’t forget to call us for dedication when the baby is born”, she insisted.
While thanking the Superintendent and staff of the Hospital for their devoted efforts at taking care of the Patients, Mrs. Mkpah also gave wrappers to the nurses and charged them to be more diligent and committed to their duties.
Reacting, the Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, Dr. Udeme Ette applauded the initiative of the First Lady in showing love to the abandoned and helpless members of the society.
“There are people high up there that celebrate their birthdays at high places but, coming down here to celebrate with the downtrodden, sick and helpless gives us hope. We are happy and thank her so much for this gesture”, he said.
As a Hospital, our business is to take care of the sick. A sick person is financially, mentally and psychologically sick too so, having people like this around to help them and us with consumables, support and etc means a lot. We expect more of this from her and others subsequently, and pray God to bless her bountifully”, he added.
Also reacting to the gesture, the Supervisor for Women Affairs in Ibeno Local Government Area and Organizing Secretary of the Eket Senatorial District Women Forum, Mrs. Lucy Iterechio commended the First Lady for prioritizing on the welfare of the less-privileged on her birthday and prayed God for more insights upon her for bigger exploits.
She thanked the Chairman of Ibeno Local Government Area, High Chief Williams Mkpah for supporting his wife dutifully and appreciated Governor Udom Emmanuel for his compassionate and fatherly disposition, which has by extension, influenced the kind gesture exhibited by his subordinates.
The event featured cutting of birthday cake by the celebrant, Mrs. Blessing Mkpah, supported by her husband, High Chief Mkpah and members of WALGON.
