Menstrual Day: Etiebet Harps on Hygiene, Kicks against Stigmatization

The Hon. Commissioner for Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet has called on parents and care givers within the state and Nigeria at large to give proper menstrual education to the girl child so as to ensure proper menstrual hygiene.

Etiebet made this call today as ‘The Every Girl Child Foundation’ took its sensitization campaign to the Community Secondary School Inen Ekeffe, Oruk Anam Local Government Area in commemoration of the world menstrual day.

In her address, The Education Boss charged the girl child to be bold always and note that there are characteristics unique to women and menstruation is one of such. She further called on parents to help educate and teach their children proper menstrual hygiene as menstruation causes a womans body to rejuvenate, she also adivsed parents to avoid stigmatizing the girl child who is having her menstruation as there would be no reproduction without menstruation.

Mrs. Etiebet also commended the Proginator, Queen Rachael Peter an Indigene of Oruk Anam and The Every Girl Child foundation for the initiative to ensure that the girl child is educated and prepared on what to expect as she comes of age to experience menstruation.

Also present at the sensitization program was the Former Supervisor for health Oruk Anam Local Government, The PDP Women Leader, Ikot Ebritam Ward 1, The Principal, Community Secondary School Inen Ekeffe amongst others.
