Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly’s Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh has called on the state government to look into the provision of more low-cost houses for low- and medium-income earners in the state.

Hon. Akpanusoh who noted that housing is a basic necessity which should be adequately provided, observed that Akwa Ibom was witnessing a continuous and increasing influx of more investors into the state.

The Appropriation Committee Chairman made the appeal while appraising the Ministry of Housing’s account at the ongoing first quarter Ministries, Departments and Agencies account held on Wednesday, May 15, at the State Assembly complex, in Uyo.

Akpanusoh urged the Ministry to encourage private-public partnership to enable them meet up with the demands of housing, adding that Satellite towns should be created with security put in place, including recreational facilities. He recalled that Governor. Udom Emmanuel had promised to embark on the provision of housing as one of his key projects, and expressed optimism that the promise would be fulfilled.

Ministries which were appraised are those of Housing, led by Engr Efiong Efiakedoho and that of Environment and Mineral Resources, led by the Director, PRS, Mr Peter Akpan.
