Killers of Ini Umoren will not go Scot-free – Unyime Idem
As the mortal remains of Iniubong Umoren were committed to mother earth amidst tears, Friday, May 14, 2021, the Member Representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. Unyime Idem has assured that those who murdered her will not go scot free as security agencies are working to ensure that justice is done.
Rep. Idem said these while fielding questions from newsmen at the funeral service conducted by the Faith Tabernacle, Ikot Ibritam District at the deceased family compound, Nung Ita Ikot Essien in OrukAnam Local Government Area.
The sympathetic Lawmaker who defied the heavy downpour to bid a final farewell to her slain constituent, noted with sadness the gruesome murder, describing it as barbaric and act against humanity.
Rep. Idem in a pensive mood and emotion laden voice condoled with the bereaved family, the people of Oruk Anam, and the Student community over the unfortunate situation and called on them to remain law abiding even as relevant Government authorities are working to ensure justice.
The People’s Representative used the avenue to debunk insinuations that the matter will be swept under the carpet, stressing that those in connection with the murder will meet the law.
The Deputy Chairman of Communications Committee in the House assured that the case is already under the watch of the Inspector-General of Police and that security agencies will do the needful to ensure that perpetrators of the heinous crime will face the music.
Born on April 16 to late Mr Ephraim Rufus Umoren of Nung Ita Ikot Essien in Oruk Anam Local Government Area, Iniubong Ephraim Umoren, the 26-year-old graduate of Philosophy from the University of Uyo left her home to Uyo, full of life on Thursday, 29th April, 2021, for a job interview in Nung Ikono Ufok, Uruan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, little did she know that the man who invited her for the job offer, will end up taking her life.
The Initiator of the first Skill acquisition and empowerment programme for 5000 Constituents called on government at all levels to create employment opportunities for youths.
He prayed that the family will have the strength to bear the irreparable loss while also wishing the soul of the departed eternal rest.
Some colleagues of the young promising graduate and students of the University of Uyo who sighted Rep. Idem at the graveside commended him for raising the motion in the National Assembly titled “A Call for the Comprehensive Investigation, Prosecution and Punishment of perpetrators of Kidnapping, Sexual Assault, Physical Assault and Heinous Killing of Miss Iniubong Ephraim Umoren”.
