…says entries for Awards is highly competitive

Journalists in Akwa Ibom State have been called upon to submit more entries before the November 18 deadline for the 2019 Press Week Professional Awards.

The Chairman of the 2019 Press Week Planning Committee, Comrade Nsibiet John, made the call on Wednesday, November 13, while reviewing progress and activities for the upcoming Press Week celebration.

According to the Chairman, although a number of journalists have responded to the call for entries, it is imperative for more members across the 14 Chapels of the State Council to beat the deadline, in order to avail themselves the opportunity to be recognized.

Comrade John, who observed that it was not common for the contributions of journalists to be acknowledged and celebrated, advised members of the State Council not to be too busy to submit their entries before the deadline.

Stating that the deadline for the submission of entries may not be extended, the Chairman said the award categories for 2019 are diverse enough to accommodate different areas of professional practise.

The Chairman again stressed that the Professional Awards for journalists, as part of the 2019 Press Week, is intended to recognize and celebrate outstanding contributions of professional journalists to the development of Akwa Ibom State and the larger society.

The 2019 Press Week celebration of the Akwa Ibom State Council is slated to hold from Sunday, December 8 to Friday, December 13.
