…says time for dumping wastes is 6pm-6am
The Akwa Ibom State Agency for Environmental Protection and Waste Management Board (AKSEPWMA), has cautioned against the indiscriminate disposal of refuse in unauthorized places.
Speaking with journalists on Friday, April 12, the AKSEPWMA boss, Hon. Prince Ikim, during a routine inspection of waste evacuation exercise undertaken by the Agency, said that defaulters would be made to face the law.
He instructed that people should always package their wastes neatly in disposal bags before dumping them at government receptacles to help evacuators do their jobs with ease, and to forestall the spread of litters.
Stressing that the time for dumping of refuse is between 6pm to 6am, Prince Ikim advised residents to stick to the timeframe, adding that those caught dumping refuse after the given time would be treated as offenders of the law.
He also asked scavengers to desist from scattering wastes at dump-points and rather do so at the Uyo village road dumpsite or face apprehension by members of the Tax Force members.
Ikim also charged those handling the evacuation of wastes to improve on their efficiency, adding that the agency would not tolerate lackadaisical attitude to work, henceforth.
He spoke on the government’s negotiations with P&S Solutions, a Chinese firm and Innoson Group, to partner the state on Waste Recycling, and assured that in no time, the state will be one of those making huge investment in Waste Recycling.
The Commissioner expressed that with the measures put in place, combined with the efforts of everyone, the state will in no time regain its seat as the Cleanest in Nigeria.
