Schools Clean-Up Project Commences in Ikot Ekpene

In preparations for the post COVID-19 era, the Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency (AKSEPWMA), Obong Prince Ikim on Thursday, June 4, flagged-off Schools Clean-up Project in Ikot Ekpene local Government Area.

The exercise which took place at Methodist Central Primary School Anwa Udo Akai, was an initiative of “Ikot Ekpene partnership Project”, supported by Family Empowerment and Youth Reorientation Path Initiative (FEYREP), Ini Ememobong foundation and Ikot Ekpene Local Government Council.

Flagging-off the Project, the AKSEPWMA Boss who noted that vegetation control is an important aspect of Environmental Protection, applauded Hon Prince Samuel Ukut who is the Principal brain behind the initiative for spending his personal funds for the sake of Akwa Ibom Children. Stating that the exercise would reduce stress for Pupils and Students whenever Schools resume, Ikim called on other well-meaning individuals and corporate organizations to emulate the gesture while promising to support the project to a successful end.

Earlier, the Progenitor of the Programme, Hon Ukutt in his remarks, expressed appreciation to Governor Udom Emmanuel for his effort in the preventing the further spread of COVID-19 in the State. Ukut who noted that Akwa Ibom has twice been declared the cleanest State under the supervision of Ikim, described the waste Management Boss as a committed and dedicated public servant who has not failed the youths.

Speaking further, the Supervisor for Health in Ikot Ekpene LGA disclosed that the project was to help clear the overgrown grasses in preparations for schools resumption. He added that the first phase of the vegetation Control Project will be carried out in 12 Government owned Schools randomly selected in Ikot Ekpene. Other Projects earlier executed by the organization as mentioned by the Principal include; free and qualitative holiday lessons for School Children and introduction of free NIN registration in remote areas of Ikot Ekpene.

In their goodwill messages, the member representing Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara State Constituency – Rt Hon Idongesit Ntekpere and Executive Director, enforcement and recovery in Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service -Oracle Leo Umanah who spoke respectively, commended Hon. Ukutt and his team for the services rendered to God and humanity. While also promising to support the project, they called on other youths of the area to emulate the kind gesture.
