In her continued fight against COVID-19, the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Akwa Ibom State Branch has visited the infectious Disease Hospital Ikot Ekpene, General Hospital Ikot Ekpene, General Hospital Ukpom Abak and the Nigerian Correctional Service.
At IDH, the PSN donated hand sanitizers and other PPE.
Making the presentation on behalf of the society, the state chairman, Dr Akwaowoh Akpabio said the Society was carrying out their Professional social responsibility.
He stated that the society was ready to partner with the Government in the fight of COVID-19 but regretted that their professional expertise was grossly underutilized.
The Medical Superintendent at IDH, Dr Udeme Inim, in Company of Dr Godfrey Akro, Director of Public Health, Ministry of Health, Akwa Ibom State, thanked PSN for the visit and donation while commending the state government for getting the center ready for Emergencies.
The Pharmacist in charge of the IDH, Pharmacist Nene Udom also appreciated the society and called on the government to integrate pharmacists fully into public health in the state.
The next port of call for the PSN was General Hospital Ikot Ekpene, where the team was received by Dr Ini Etukudo the Medical Superintendent, and management team. The Superintendent appreciated the donations, noting the synergy among health workers in fighting COVID-19 scourge and prayed for its continuation in the best interest of the patients and health sector.
At general hospital, Ukpom Abak, the PSN team was received by the Medical Superintendent, Dr Anthony Umana, Pharmacy Uduak Iwok and other members of management team. After receiving the items, The Medical Superintendent in his response thanked the society while noting that health workers were more vulnerable during the COVID-19 health crises.
He commended the pharmacists for deciding to be in the forefront of fighting the pandemic thereby placing high premium on the lives of health workers and that of the people of Akwa Ibom State.
The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria Akwa Ibom State Branch had also visited the Nigeria Correctional Service, where they distributed sanitizers to the center.
