The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information and Communication Strategy, Mr Charles Udoh, has announced that Akwa Ibom’s Aircraft – Ibom Air, will commence commercial flights across Nigeria before May 29, 2019.
He said this while speaking on a radio programme on Tuesday, April 23.
Included among projects to be commissioned before the transition into Governor Udom’s second term tenure are: Immanuel General Hospital, Eket; General hospital, Iquita, Oron; Awa cottage hospital and some roads which will be completed before then.
Mr. Udoh noted that the projects were evidences of the state governor’s commitment to developing the State as promised from inception.
“The Governor having attained such a height in the global community with numerous awards of recognition and accolades will not smear his integrity and trail blazing success story but will continue to uphold his virtues and commitment to delivering on project Akwa Ibom anchored on sustainable development”, he said in response to rumours that the Governor plunged the state resources into campaigns for his re-election.
He maintained that Governor Udom Emmanuel was indeed on the course of making Akwa Ibom a reference point in industrialization and development as well as a destination for visitors and tourists, adding that an enabling environment has been created to attract aspiring investors to the state.
“To this end, the government is working assiduously and gearing huge resources into the maintenance and utilization of all necessary public utilities and facilities like the Nest of Champions, the Victor Attah International Stadium, the up-coming Four Point by Sheraton, the provision of power and good network of roads like the ongoing construction of ring roads along Oron road and Aka – Nung Udoe for the convenience of Visitors and investor to the state” the Commissioner added.
The Commissioner stated that the just concluded UEFA Champions League Trophy Match played in the state was an avenue which attracted foreigners to view the state potentials.
“it was a clear testimony of the state fast becoming a destination of choice in global reckoning as Akwa Ibom was picked alongside Lagos as the only 2 states in Nigeria for the friendly football tour”.
“There was increased income to the state as the footballers and other team officials paid for their hotel expenses and food, transporters to and from the stadium made money from their transportation services and Akwa Ibom products were patronized such as raffia work”, he said.
He urged people of the state to support and cooperate with the state government as it progresses into another tenure; adding that 26 more industries will be in operation with numerous employment and job creation opportunities for Akwa Ibomites.
