Bendel Insurance Football Club of Ibadan will today tackle Kada City Football Club of Kaduna in the Bet9ja Nigeria National League Super Eight finals in Enyimba Stadium, Aba, Abia State.
After a perfect group stage campaign from the Southern Conference, Bendel Insurance scored five goals and conceded none, to mark a remarkable return to top tier football in Nigeria.
With their exploits, the Benin Arsenal are clear favourite to win the championship finals.
The Deputy Governor of Edo State and registered Bendel Insurance player, Philip Shaibu, said the target for Insurance is to win the NPFL and return continental football to Edo State.
“Our mission was to gain promotion to the NPFL, that, we have achieved in style, next is to win the league and return continental football to Edo State.”
“The state government is renovating the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin and will remain it to Insurance Stadium. Our players are well taken care of and we will try our best to achieve our target for the season,” the Deputy Governor said.
Kada City FC will make their NPFL debut this season after they also sealed qualification to the league as table toppers, ahead of Gombe United, Kogi United and Real Stars FC.
They won the group with five points, same number with Gombe United but with a superior goal different.
Coach Adams Usman led side will go into the final with nothing to lose, having sealed their qualifications to the league, hoping they can upset Insurance and be crown champions.
They are drawn in group B with two times Aiteo Cup winners, Akwa United, former NPFL champions, Plateau United, Kano Pillars and fellow promoted side, Gombe United.
