Labour Commissioner Strikes Synergy with NCDMB

The Commissioner for Labour and Manpower Planning, Prof. Victor Inoka, has initiated a synergy between Akwa Ibom State Government and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB).

The Commissioner, Prof. Victor Inoka, alongside directors in the Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning, recently embarked on a familiarization visit to the NCDMB, to further expand the frontiers of the Ministry’s engagement towards industrial harmony, enhance employment generation and wealth creation in the State to meet global standards and benchmarks.

Pursuant to the discharge and realization of the core mandates of the Ministry to improve productivity, generate employment, promote a better standard of living for Akwa Ibom people, the Commissioner stated during the visit that, the completion agenda of the governor, His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has its pivot on an industrialization renaissance that would turn around the fortunes of the state in no distant time.

This, he said, was the reason the Ministry of Labour is poised with a readiness to ensure availability of effective workforce and as well enhance human capital development for this industrial revolution.

In his presentation, the Zonal Coordinator of the NCDMB, Engr. Uduak Obot, exhaustively emphasized the objectives of the board and the journey so far to capture the board’s ten years strategic plans, which covers, Technical Capability Development; Compliance and Enforcement; Enabling Business Environment; Organization Capability; Sectoral and Regional Market Linkage.

Deliberating further, he stressed that the board is poised “to be the catalyst for the industrialization of the Nigerian oil and gas industry and its linkage sectors. To increase local content level in the oil and gas industry from 26% to 80%, and to double the value chain domiciled in the Nigerian oil and gas industry by 2027”.

He revealed further that the board is also poised to expand and deepen in- country technical capacity in the oil and gas industry; ensure that Nigerian content implementation is enhanced through the mobilization of appropriate tools, policies and framework across the entire value chain of the oil and gas industry; facilitate a commercially viable business environment that encourages increased sector investment; build effective internal structures in terms of people, skills, processes and systems to support the board’s operations across the entire oil and gas industry; increase the oil and gas industry contributions to National GDP and facilitate access of Nigerian – made goods and services to regional markets.

While calling on the Akwa Ibom State Government to take advantage of the vast opportunities abounding in the NCDMB, Engr. Uduak Obot, appreciated Gov. Udom Emmanuel for creating an enabling environment for businesses and industries to thrive in the state. He also appreciated the governor for his foresightedness and magnanimity in making available massive land for the siting of Oil and Gas Park and other facilities by NCDMB in the State.

Responding, the Commissioner for Labour and Manpower Planning, Prof. Inoka, reiterated Governor Udom Emmanuel’s commitment to repositioning the real sector in the state as evidenced by the huge investment he has made in his Industrialization Agenda.

He stated that the governor’s policy on industrialization aligns with his Completion Agenda, which aims at transforming the state into an enviable industrial hub in the Gulf of Guinea.

“There is an unprecedented avalanche of industries in Akwa Ibom State under governor Udom Emmanuel, and that has necessitated our visit today to synergize and collaborate with the NCDMB, towards enhancing specific manpower development in the state.”  Prof. Inoka posited.

In her closing remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning, Dr (Mrs) Valerie Obot, acknowledged the elaborate presentation done by the Zonal Coordinator, NCDMB, saying that, with such opportunities, the Ministry will wade into maximising as well as taking advantage of those opportunities for the greater good of the generality of Akwa Ibom people.

While also appreciating the Zonal Coordinator, Engr. Uduak Obot, for his visible achievements over the years in the board, the Permanent Secretary, appealed for a more robust relationship between the board and the Ministry to enhance the realization of set goals by the Ministry.

Present during the visit were, the entire directorates of the Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning and staff members of the NCDMB, amongst others.
