Governor Udom Emmanuel is a unifying factor that has broken all known barriers to put Akwa Ibom and indeed Nigeria on the pathway of unity.

The Commissioner for Information, Sir Charles Udoh made this known on Wednesday, February 19, while speaking at Live Radio interview programme.

He said Governor Udom Emmanuel in organizing the burial of his late father, Pa Gabriel Nkanang, defied political, ethnic and religious barriers to unite the people in his assemblage of notable Akwa Ibomites and Nigerians who came, happily sat together and shared freely at the funeral and thanksgiving service in Awa Iman, Onna Local Government Area of the state.

Also Read: Sir Charles Udoh emphasized that although Nigeria is a multi-party society, with elections successfully carried out in most of its states, it is just right for all to sheath political swords, bury ethnic and religious sentiments and toe the line of Governor Udom Emmanuel in breaking barriers to forge-on unity in the state.

He described Governor Emmanuel as a focused and God-fearing leader who is not bringing propaganda into development, but is consciously and committedly plowing resources into enduring life-touching projects that will impact on people of the state.

Expressing that Akwa Ibom is now sitting pretty with 18 industries which are providing direct and indirect job opportunities for the teeming youths of the state, creating wealth and alleviating poverty; the State Information helmsman said that Governor Emmanuel is doing his best to promote entrepreneurial development in an effort to catapult the state economy from a public sector oriented one to a private sector-driven one.

To this end, Sir Udoh revealed that Governor Emmanuel is targeting the churn-out of 3,000 entrepreneurs every 6 months in the state, with the vigorous mounting of entrepreneurial clinics and expos by government for budding entrepreneurs through different organs like the Dakkada Enterprise Development centre, the Multilateral and Donor Agency Coordinating body, the Marketing and Brand Management outfit of government as well as the Bureau of Cooperatives, among others.

He said the present administration has performed creditably in all sectors like Power, through the set-up of injector power stations in different parts of the state to boost electricity, reiterating that the goal of government is to ensure that every household in Akwa Ibom is linked to the National grid by December 2021, with the launch of the power for all initiative. 

On Education, Udoh announced the massive rehabilitation undertaken in public schools to provide a congenial learning environment for pupils and students across the state.

Disclosing that, the Udom Emmanuel’s administration inherited about 2,000 schools in very deplorable condition, the state spokesman said government has so far fixed 1,500 of them, adding that the exercise is ongoing since the decaying schools cannot be undertaken in one swoop with the available resources at government’s disposal.

Udoh intimated further that the government has introduced modular classrooms, while conscious efforts are being geared at improving the schools’ curriculum to bring entrepreneurial and skill development to meetup the trending hi-tech and competing business world. This he said, is to further enhance accommodation in public schools with the upsurge in enrollment.

Speaking on Agriculture, the Information Boss attributed the drastic slash in the cost of staple foods like garri and vegetables to the government’s provision of soft interest loans to farmers to encourage Agricultural ventures, adding that over 2,000 women are benefitting from a loan package of about N250,000 to N300,000 each.

Baring his mind on the Health sector, Sir Udoh said that the state government has remodeled, re-equipped and upgraded secondary health institutions with state-of-the-art facilities across the three senatorial districts of the state to make healthcare service delivery efficient and accessible to the people.

On roads, the Information Boss said, government has constructed numerous network of roads in the state to ease traffic congestion and also enhance evacuation of goods and produce from the hinterland to the city centre disclosing that, when the ring roads 3 and 2 are completed, there will be new access for motorists within the town to decongest traffic especially along the shelter Afrique-axis of Oron road.

Reiterating that the present administration is business-conscious, the Information Commissioner disclosed that government often takes into consideration the Return on Investment (ROI) when embarking on projects and undertaking investment ventures, adding that it is however committed to ensuring that a world class facility is put in place in the three senatorial districts of the state for the benefit of the people, investors and tourists.

He therefore urged all to come together and join Governor Udom Emmanuel to project the state with one voice and face in building the state to an enviable height.
