At the meeting of the Ikot Ekpene Field Office of the Ministry of Information and Strategy (The Raffia Zone) held at the office of the Zonal Director, Mrs. Grace Akpan, on Tuesday, April 16, Governor Udom Emmanuel was applauded for the developmental projects he has executed for the people of Ikot Ekpene senatorial district of the state.
Top on the list of projects in the zone include: Ufa Ini palm kernel oil crushing mill in Ukanafun, Cassava processing mills in Abak and Ini, Fertilizer blending company in Abak and Agricon Rice mill in Ini.
Others are Nkana bridge linking Ikpe Ikot Nkon-Obotmme-Arochukwu in Ini; Nto Edino-Ekwuerazu bridge; 4.6km road from Mbiafun Nkwongo-Nung Ukim with street lights; Itakiet Ebuk edip road construction linking Abia State in Ika and the ongoing Uyo/Ikot Ekpene road dualization project.
In addition, the Ikot Ekpene field officers thanked the Governor for the remodeling, upgrading, digitization and equipping of Ikono and Oruk Anam general hospitals as well as the massive rehabilitation of public primary and secondary schools in the zone.
The free education policy of the Udom Emmanuel-led government from the primary to the senior secondary school level received kudos, as well as the free healthcare policy of government for children between 0-5 years, pregnant women and the aged.
These, they said, are in addition to the abundant natural resources in the zone such as Raffia Palm, Bamboo and Oil Palm, which they said have complemented the Governor’s life-touching projects executed in the area for the benefit of the people.
They took a tour of some natural habits in the zone, harbouring bamboo and assorted palm trees for tapping by aspiring investors.
The officers however regretted the absence of an office accommodation for the Ikot Ekpene Zonal Office, making the Zonal Director operate from Uyo, the state capital. They therefore called on the government to consider the provision of an office for the Zone.
The Ikot Ekpene Field Office of the Ministry of Information and Strategy (The Raffia Zone) comprises of 10 Local Government Areas. It has Hannah Udousoroh as the Field Officer for Abak, Itoro Ntuen and Nsemeke Obot as Field officers, Essien Udim, Imaobong Peter, Etim Ekpo; Udeme Morgan, Ika; Victoria Ebiefung as the officer in-charge.
