Gov Emmanuel Commissions Projects in Obot Akara

…Amidst Applause By Stakeholders

The State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has expressed gratitude to the people of Obot Akara Local Government Area, for their massive support demonstrated to the lofty policies and programmes of his administration.

His Excellency said this yesterday, 22nd September, 2021, during the commissioning of the second phase Nto Edino/ Ekwereazu Road that comes with twin bridges to link Obot Akara communities in Akwa Ibom State and with other parts of Nigeria.

According to the state Governor, the construction of Nto Edino/Ekwereazu Road with twin bridges amongst other projects, was a way of expressing gratitude to the good people of Obot Akara, whose supportive gesture, he stressed, could not be taken for granted.

Commissioner for Works, Prof. Eno Ibanga Making a speech at the occasion

“I’m not just coming back here for the bridges, but rather come to say thank you for everything you have done. Road projects and investments are better ways to say thank you,”He said.

“I want to assure Obot Akara people that I have also taken note of the Mbiaso, Ikot Ambang roads and the bridge they’ve mentioned today, and I have already directed Seyang to commence work on that other bridge and road.
I am sure with his level of competence, we should come back to commission them in 15 months from now”, he added.

About the quality of road and bridge constructed by the indigenous contractor, Engr. Samuel Inyang, on the Nto Edino/Ekwereazu Road, the Governor expressed satisfaction.

In the Governor’s assertion, “Seyang has made us so proud as an indigenous contractor, this is excellent engineering. It’s good to acquire sufficient knowledge and skills in what you set out to study. I am impressed by what Engr. Samuel Inyang has done”.He opined.

Also speaking, the Hon. Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof. Eno Ibanga, lauded the gigantic strides recorded by His Excellency the Governor, and also applauded the unassuming leadership style exhibited by the state chief Executive via listening and harkening to the cries and yearnings of the people of Obot Akara Local Government Area.

He said that the primary responsibility of every responsive government is to provide social amenities to her citizenry both in rural and urban communities.

He hinted of the avowed determination of the Governor Udom Emmanuel-led administration to embark on quality road construction, as contained in his completion agenda mantra.

Prof. Eno Ibanga made the disclosure recently in Obot Akara, while accompanying the State Governor at the Commissioning of roads and bridge projects.

The Works and Fire Service helmsman stated that the recent Commissioning exercise, being part of activities mapped out to mark the 2021 Akwa Ibom State anniversary, was a demonstration of the Governor’s response to the yearning
of the people of Obot Akara community, for quality road network in their area.

He noted that Nto Edino/Ekwereazu Road with twin bridges, being the only road linking Obot Akara communities in Akwa Ibom State with Umuahia in Abia State and other surrounding states, was an eye sore and a death trap which had caused series of accidents to road users, thereby impeding the importation of goods and services by business men and women, private car owners as well as travellers plying the road.

He further noted that the intervention of the 300 meters with 1.2 Kilometers road of 45 meters-span bridges by Governor Udom Emmanuel, was timely as it would avert the rate of accident hitherto recorded almost on a daily basis. Also, the former vice Chancellor considered that such development would enhance the state economy, as the business of importation and exportation of goods would thrive favourably.

In their separate remarks, the Senator representing Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Distinguished Senator Christopher Ekpenyong and the Hon. Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Monday Ebong Uko, thanked the Governor for what they described as his unprecedented leadership acumen, a salvaging factor believed to have saved the people of Obot Akara from the impending doom, prior to the award of the road contract in 2016.

The duo stated that Nto Edino/Ekwereazu Road including the twin bridge was a dead trap which in the past 32 years, had claimed many lives.

They noted that such quality of road constructed by Engr. Samuel Inyang, the CEO of Seyang Construction Limited, would stand the test of time.

The Paramount Ruler of Obot Akara Local Government Area, His Royal Majesty, Okuku Uwa Umo Adiaka (III), also spoke in glowing terms about the Governor’s strides, particularly, as those laudable strides would enhance Completion Agenda.

Also present at the inauguration event were some stakeholders, namely: Hon. (Lady) Agnes Udoenwenwen, the Executive Chairman of Obot Akara Local Government Council; Rt. Hon. Idongesit Ntekpere, member representing Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara State Constituency in the 7th Assembly and other top government officials.
