The immediate past National Assembly member for the Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency, Prof. Ini Udoka, has revealed that the People’s Democratic party (PDP) candidate for the constituency in the forthcoming elections, Emmanuel Ekpenyong is not an indigene of Ini but Oron.
Udoka said this on Friday, February 9, while addressing the People of Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency in Ukwok ward 9 and 10, during the APC ward tour across Ikono and Ini local government areas.
Speaking at the event, Prof Ini Udoka, said the constituency believes in ‘practical politics’ against politics of theory and that their political ideology is unidirectional for the development of their community.
He presented Barr. Edidiong Idiong and Nya Isong to the people, describing them as men with proven integrity and capacity to take Ini to the next level of prosperity.
He said: “We will not share Ikono/Ini vote to any other candidate, most especially the recalcitrant that the PDP have chosen, thinking they can impose them on us, their candidate for Ini State Constituency, Mr. Emmanuel Ekpenyong is not from Ini, he is from Oron, we will not make such mistake for an alien to lead us, our true Son is out, Kenny Eka, Nya Isong and Barr. Idiong with President Buhari, Obong Nsima Ekere, Sen Godswill Akpabio are candidates with pedigree that will deliver Ikono/Ini”, he said.
Similarly, Hon. Paul Owo urged the people of Ikono and Ini not to fall prey of the PDP’s ‘vote buying’ schemes by selling their birth right. He assured that Barr. Idiong, together with other APC candidates will attract federal and state government projects to Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency and look into the the deplorable road network in Ini abandoned by the PDP for years.
Also speaking was Hon. Augustine Asuaiko, who observed that for the first time in history, the governorship candidate of a party was mentioning his community’s deplorable road conditions as one of his topmost priority to be delivered on his assumption of office.
The former Lawmaker pointed out that Ekere’s preparedness to construct the deplorable Ukwok road should be a motivation for people of the area to ensure his emergence as the next Governor of Akwa Ibom State.
According to him, “if any political party cannot change you positively, change that party – we defected from PDP to APC because their reward system was poor, they had nothing for us despite all the effort we put in for them to succeed”.
On his part, the APC flag bearer for the Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency, Barr. Edidiong Idiong, assured the people of drawing developmental projects from the state and federal governments to them in his five-points agenda.
He called on the people to vote the APC candidates rightly on February 16 and on March 2, stressing that their votes will count.
Similarly, Hon. Nya Isong assured the people of Ukwok to work with Obong Nsima Ekere to ensure that the deplorable road situations in Ukwok Community are repaired.
The candidates thanked the people for the confidence reposed on them and vowed to reciprocate the trust when voted into office.
Highpoints of the event included royal blessings from the Ukwok traditional rulers and the reception of over one hundred defectors from PDP to APC by the Ini APC Chapter Chairman, Mr. Itoro Efrenie.
The event attracted eminent community leaders, Ini traditional rulers, Elders, Women, Youths and Students and others.
