The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel has identified with a Patriarch of Oro Nation, Sir Engr Edet James Amana on his 80th birthday.
Governor Emmanuel who poured encomiums on the octogenarian at the Lady Doris Amana Memorial Methodist Cathedral, Oyubia where the 80th anniversary thanksgiving and launching of Edet Amana Foundation held; thanked God for the length of life granted the legendary icon.
Udom Emmanuel who spoke through the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Barr Onofiok Luke admitted to the achievements and contributions of the celebrator towards the creation, growth and development of Akwa Ibom State as well as the nation and humanity.
Governor Emmanuel appreciated God for Sir Amana’s sacrifices and commitment to the cause of qualitative education through his foundation and announced a donation to Edet Amana’s Educational Foundation.
He said, “The Governor has asked me to join faith with you and thank God for keeping you in the last 80 years. He acknowledges your achievements and contributions to the growth and development of Akwa Ibom State, beginning from the agitation for its creation. He asked me to thank God for a gift of your kind to the people of the State.
“Also, His Excellency the Governor truly acknowledges your commitment and sacrifices to the qualitative education of Akwa Ibom people, through your foundation. He is happy to acknowledge your role and contributions to the propagation of the gospel as you have built many Churches”.
Barr. Luke also extolled the salient qualities of the engineer, describing him as a man of integrity whose godfearing attributes should be emulated by the present generation for a better future.
“On a personal capacity, I had scheduled this programme to be my major event for today. This is because we value the personality of Sir Edet Amana who will say “yes” and his “yes” is “yes”. Your life is a testimony of that man who walks with God. The Bible directs that people should remember God in the days of their youth.
“If at 80, our father is still passionate about God in the manner we saw him today, then we need to connect this generation with people like him so we can have a community and society of people who are conscious about God and his commandments.
“The prayer of our generation is therefore that God should keep you strong, keep you healthy so that we can learn from your feet and that we may drink from your wealth of wisdom”, he said.
In an ode dedicated to the celebrator, the President General emeritus of Oron Union, Chief Engr Asuquo Inuikim Obon Ikpoto Oro, described Sir Edet Amana as a man with “divine contract” whose excellent spirit has emboldened him to break records home and abroad. He prayed long life and God’s protection on the global citizen.

Your Days approved of God, you wear the crown
Your life’s marked impressive by divine contract
You went abroad and lo you crushed your peers
You landed home and so your records swell

Others who also sent goodwill messages included the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Moses Ekpo MFR; former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator (Dr) Ibrahim Mantu, and others.
While reviewing the book entitled, “Sojourn to Providence”, Prof Peter Esuh of the Communication Arts Department, University of Uyo, cited Olusegun Adeniyi as presenting the celebrator as “unassuming and simple, a nationalist whose book is a compendium of a powerful experience written not by a man in his youth or his middle age but by a man who just turned 80”.
He further stated, “Sojourn to Providence is a testimony of brilliance, intellectual prowess and cerebral configuration of an enigmatic creation”. He adds, “It is an inspirational book for all libraries, churches and all generation which enriches human person”.
In his songs, hymns and words of praises to God, the celebrator, Dr Edet James Amana appreciated God who has been his source of life, providence and wisdom throughout his life. He advised his invitees to stay alive with God who connects all souls to their needs and expectations.
The event which officiated by Prelate of the Methodist Church, Nigeria, His Eminence Dr Samuel Chukwuemeka Kanu Uche; the Archbishop of Calabar, His Grace Most Rev Emmanuel Udofia, former Prelate of the Methodist Church, Dr Sunday Mbang, and was attended by prominent sons and daughters of the state.
