EARCOM Drums Support for Governor Udom Emmanuel’s Students Leadership Training

Executive Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State, Ethical and Attitudinal Reorientation Commission,  EARCOM,  Dr Dorothy Thompson has commended Governor Udom Emmanuel’s kind gesture of sponsoring student leaders in the State to Abuja for leadership training and retreat.

Expressing the position of EARCOM  in her office in Uyo on Thursday,  Dr Thompson said this gesture is a milestone,  being the first ever leadership and capacity development training facilitated by the State government for student leaders.

 She called on the Student Leaders to take the training seriously and learn the vital lessons that would position them well as leaders of tomorrow. 

Thompson noted that in the quest for nation building youth engagement is a key factor in the search for solutions to our national problems which include socio-political challenges and the need for cultural, moral and economic transformation. She added that, the leadership training is an exposure that is in sync with capacity building,  retraining and human development which will be beneficial for the youth.

Commending Governor Emmanuel’s effort on youth development, she said, his administration, through the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Minstry of Education have continued to make massive investment in the youth of the State with the free and compulsory education and other policies which will step up awareness creation to enable our youths make informed decisions and prepare them for a better tomorrow.

In the same vein, the EARCOM Chairman has congratulated the youths for the training and acknowledged their resilience in contributing to national development.

She stated that the relevance of the Leadership training and retreat cannot be over-emphasized especially at a time the Not too young to run act has be signed by President Buhari.

Dr Thompson however charged the student leaders to become socially responsible citizens and good ambassadors who can emulate Governor Emmanuel’s pragmatic leadership qualities. 

She also sued for their support and creating more awareness for the proscription of secret cults by Governor Emmanuel and the need for youths to flee social vices including rape, prostitution, violence, examination malpractices,  drug and substance abuse among others.

EARCOM she said, will continue to engage youth and student leaders across the State to ensure a culture of discipline,  self development,  and focus on their education for a formidable legacy to the world. She disclosed that EARCOM has taken her sensitization campaigns to schools across the ten Federal Constituencies of the State and even to Tertiary Institutions to drive the initiative, “Academics not Vices”
The Leadership training was concluded on the 13th of August, 2021.
