Determined to take optimum advantage of the dry season towards completing some ongoing road projects in the State, the Akwa Ibom State Government has emphasized that it will not entertain any excuses from property owners who refuse to vacate properties on the right of way after having received due compensation.
This was part of the repeated warning issued by the State Commissioner for Works, Mr Ephraim Inyangeyen, while on inspection on Wednesday, January 29.
Worried by the stubbornness of some residents in areas where projects are ongoing, the commissioner expressed displeasure that those who have received compensation months before construction began, rather choose to give frivolous excuses and refuse to vacate such marked structures for demolition and progress of work by contractors handling the projects.
Inspecting the ongoing flyover at Ikot Oku Ikono junction, reporters on site observed that properties were still obstructing progress of work on the road handled by Julius Berger Nig. Plc.
“Akwa Ibom government has been very considerate in the matter of compensation. The State belongs to the few states that pays reasonable compensation on property, and no structure has ever been pulled down without due payment”, the Commissioner stressed.
