Contractors in Akwa Ibom State have met with the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Professor Eno Ibanga to fine-tne measures for the timely completion of projects in the State.
The all-important meeting which held on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 in the Conference Room of the Ministry had the Commissioner state that the essence of the meeting was to take advantage of the dry season in meeting the completion agenda of Governor Udom Emmanuel.
“His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel, has said, time without number that he wants to complete those projects before the exit of this administration.” Prof. Ibanga noted.

Continuing, the Commissioner stressed that even if all the projects may not be completed, as government is a continuum, ”we will be at a very reasonable level that anybody coming to see will know that we have done absolutely well.”
According to Ibanga, “to drive this completion agenda is you,” (the contractors.) He therefore urged and requested them to cooperate with the government and Management of the Ministry of Works and Fire Service, to see that projects that have been established are reasonably completed.
He lauded Niger Pet Company, handling Eket Remodeling Phase One project for the extent of work done: “I was so excited, and sent the message across to His Excellency, that Eket Remodeling Phase One will be commissioned.” He urged other contractors to increase the pace of work and put in all efforts in making sure that they deliver.
He particularly expressed delight and joy with His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel, for his efforts in responding positively by injecting funds to contractors as promised.
He further said that the release of funds to the contractors is based on good performance, even as he is going round with the Management of the Ministry to monitor the various constructions by respective companies.
He maintained that despite his magnanimity to defaulting contractors, he shall henceforth not hesitate to revoke the contract of any contractor that is staged to sabotage the Reconstruction and Rehabilitation of Akwa Ibom Roads.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Fire Service, Engineer John Itiat, appreciated Governor Udom Emmanuel for reviving Companies and contractors in the State, as this will lead to resumption of work in their various projects sites.
To re-echo what the Honourable Commissioner said, Itiat appealed to the contractors to be committed to their projects and should adhere to the specification and standard given to them, knowing fully well that if there are problems, it will bring down or put the names of their companies in the bad light.
In company of the Honourable Commissioner in the meeting, aside from the Permanent Secretary, Engineer John Itiat, were all the Directors of each directorates.
