Ben Ayade

Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State on Saturday, April 20, gave N1m and other gifts to an inmate of Calabar Prison who gave birth to a set of twins on Thursday, April 18, and named them after him and his wife.

The Governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Inyang Asibong, gave the gift as an Easter present for the upkeep of the inmate and babies through the management of the General Hospital Calabar.

“We are donating a cash amount of N1 million and these items to the hospital to help in the management of these children until the mother is well, safe and sound,” the Governor said, adding that “the beautiful babies deserve love and care”.

The Governor also disclosed the government’s consideration of an executive pardon for the inmate. “We are going to have discussions with the prison authority to know the next step in what to do”.

The babies are being taken care of by the state government while their mother will remain in prison pending the outcome of the negotiation between the prison authorities and the state government.
