Briefing by Forum of Former Presidents, SUG, UNIUYO

All is set for the inauguration of the Board of Trustees, Forum of Former Presidents, Students’ Union Government, University of Uyo.

The event is slated for Thursday, 16th December, 2021 at E-Plus Prime Hotel, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State by 4pm with the theme, “Foundation for the Needed Transformative Leadership in Nigeria; the Role of Gown and Town”.

According to the Planning Committee Chairman, Comrade Michael Effiom said it is important to inaugurate the Board to have a legal face in adding value to the leadership of the society.

According to Effiom, “we thought it very wise to confer legal status on this group by way of incorporating it with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria which was done this year. We had to meet the set out criteria which included membership of the Board of Trustees whose identities were thoroughly scrutinized and none was found to be culpable of any questionable antecedents. Thereafter, the Federal Government granted us the registration and also gave us a seal to operate as a Forum of Former Presidents, Students’ Union Government, University of Uyo.

“As a follow-up to that, we have slated 16th December, 2021 by 4pm at E-Plus Prime Hotel for the inauguration of Board of Trustees of this Forum, with the following personalities constituting the Board; Chairman – Prof Akpan Ekpo, Rt Hon. Archibong Inyang as Secretary, members – Vice Chancellor of University of Uyo – Prof Nyaudoh Ndaeyo, Registrar and Secretary to Governing Council of University of Uyo – Mr Aniediabasi Udofia and Akparawa Nse Ubeh”, he stated.

Also speaking, the Chancellor of the Forum, Akparawa Nse Ubeh said the group is in existence to checkmate vices in the campus, encourage academic excellence and add value to leadership amidst other obligations.

In his words, “having passed through the tutelage of seasoned Administrators who piloted the affairs of the University from inception, we seem it fit to contribute our quota as former SUG Presidents by taking this step. As such, we are not going to end here, we will take this movement across Nigeria by gathering other former SUG Presidents from other public and private Universities. By so doing, we will ensure that leadership is what it is meant to be”.

Meanwhile, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel is expected as special guest of honour, Obong Paul Ekpo as Chairman of the Occasion and Prof Akpan Ekpo to present a keynote address on the theme.
