Barely 24 hours to the expiration of the deadline provided by the Electoral Act, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has approached the election tribunal with his team of lawyers to file a petition against the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari in the February 23 election.
National Legal Adviser of the PDP, Emmanuel Enoidem, says Atiku and the PDP are praying the Tribunal to declare Atiku as the bona-fide winner of the 2019 presidential election and also urging the tribunal to nullify the February 23 presidential election on the grounds that it was marred by irregularities.
Section 134 (1) of the Electoral Act, 2010, stipulates that “an election petition shall be filed within 21 days after the date of the declaration of results of the elections.”
The tribunal will be conducting its proceedings at the Court of Appeal headquarters in Abuja.
Platinum.ng recalls that the tribunal on March 6, permitted Atiku and PDP to inspect the electoral materials that were used in conducting the presidential election.
