An Islamic Cleric, Sheik Muyideen Ajani Bello, has proclaimed that any Muslim who kills in the name of God will go to Hell.
Bello said this on Thursday, May 2, while delivering a Pre-Ramadan Lecture titled “Religious Harmony, Panacea for Political and Economic Development in Nigeria”, at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) in Osogbo, Osun.
Bello who stressed that no true Muslim kills in the name of God, said that God does not want His name to be used in terrorizing people.
He described Islam as a religion of peace, and noted that Prophet Mohammed, who is the leading light of the religion, accommodated people of other faith and treated them with dignity.
“We cannot restore the dignity of man by killing innocent people, we should desist from anything that can make us to be seen and regarded as fanatics.
“Without mincing words, anybody who kills while shouting Allah is not Muslims and will surely go to hell,” he said.
Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State who was represented at the event by his Deputy Chief of staff, Alhaji Adeyanju Binuyo, urged Muslim faithfuls to follow peace at all times and abstain from acts that could bring about religious crises.
He also charged them to use the holy month of Ramadan to help and give to the needy, and as well maintain a cordial relationship with non-Muslims.
Earlier, the Osogbo NTA General Manager, Mr. Abduwaheed Amusat noted that the topic of this year’s Ramadan lecture was imperative considering the security challenges in Nigeria at the moment.
