An indigenous oil company, Moni Pulo Limited, has donated an Ambulance to the Akwa Ibom State Government to support the fight against COVID-19 in the state.
The presentation ceremony took place at the office of the Secretary to the State Government in Uyo on Wednesday, April 29.
Presenting the ambulance, Government and Community Affairs Manager of the Company, Chief Clifford Daerego who represented the Executive Chairman, Dr (Mrs) Seinye Lulu-Briggs, commended the state government on the efforts already put in place to combat the spread of coronavirus in the state.
He explained that the gesture is part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to “the state that is hosting us.”
Daerego who assured the governor of the “full support” of the company at this critical time, lauded Mr Emmanuel for being the first governor in Nigeria to constitute a post COVID-19 Economic Reconstruction Committee as well as his judicious use of the state’s funds.
“We pray that God Almighty further strengthens you and increases His grace and wisdom upon you as you chart the way forward for the State and for Nigeria. With the help of Almighty God, we know that this unseen, but common enemy of mankind will be defeated,” Daerego stated.
Receiving the ambulance on behalf of the state government, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem thanked the company for the gesture and called for more support from individuals, groups and corporate organisations to help in the fight against COVID-19.
Dr Ekuwem said for the company to contribute towards the fight against the pandemic that is equally threatening its corporate existence shows that they are good corporate citizen.
“On behalf of His Excellency, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel, I express our very deep and heartfelt gratitude to Moni Pulo for deeming it fit to contribute its own quota to support His Excellency, the Governor in this fight against the COVID-19 global pestilence ravaging mankind,” the SSG stated.
He told the company that Governor Udom Emmanuel-led administration is committed to do everything within its power to keep Akwa Ibom and her people safe as the life of any citizen of the state is as important as the life of the governor.
