Court Nullifies NBC’s Suspension of AIT, Ray Power

An Abuja High Court presided by Justice Inyang Ekwo has nullified the suspension of AIT/Ray Power’s operating licenses.

Justice Ekwo, in his judgement on Friday, June 7, gave the NBC till May 30, 2019 to revert the ban on AIT/Raypower.

Following the suspension of the TV and Radio station by the NBC for allegations bothering on breach of the NBC’s broadcasting code, Daar Communications, had in an ex parte through its Lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), asked the court to order the Commission to revert the ban.

In the said suit, Daar Communications PLC calimed that it did not breach any broadcast code.

It requested that the court should grant its prayers in “restraining the defendants from blocking, jamming, stopping removing from air and/or interfering with the air waves of the plaintiff/applicant (Daar Plc) in any way and manner however called from invading the premises of the plaintiff/applicant (Daar Plc) or closing down, viet armis, the said premises, its operations or broadcast services, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice filed along with this application.”

Meanwhile, in a press release, the NBC on Thursday, June 6, had faulted Daar Communications for “use of inflammatory, divisive, inciting broadcasts, and media propaganda against the government and, the NBC for performing its statutory functions of regulating the broadcast industry in Nigeria”.
