A’Ibom Scores High on Fiscal Index, IGR

Akwa Ibom State has been rated 3rd in fiscal sustainability Index in Nigeria by a renowned fiscal and budgetary-oriented organisation- BUDG IT.

The State has also within the period been listed the 7th most healthy in the country on Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

According to BUDG IT – a civil organization targeting the interpretation and assessment of the Nigerian budget data, the 3rd place rating of Akwa Ibom is an indicator that the State has the potential for rapid economic growth.

The State Accountant General, Pastor Uwem Andrew Essien disclosed this recently in Uyo, while defending the 2020 budget proposals of his office before the House of Assembly Committee on Appropriation and Finance.

Pastor Uwem Essien stated that the financial discipline brought into the state under the leadership of Governor Udom Emmanuel has been instrumental to these high scores of Akwa Ibom on national financial ratings.

The Accountant General who acknowledged the prudent and transparent disposition of Governor Emmanuel intimated that his office has successfully published and circulated to relevant bodies the 2015, 2016 and 2017 financial statements of Akwa Ibom State Government, while that of 2018 is presently before the Public Accounts Committee.

He maintained that Akwa Ibom State government has recorded huge successes in efficient and prudent utilisation of public funds for programme and project implementation, expressing the optimism that with the current trend, more will be achieved with improved funding and high financial discipline.
