In order to ensure total compliance to the objective of keeping the state clean, the Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency, Hon. Prince Ikim, has announced the decision of the Agency to commence a House-to-House Waste Evacuation.

The Chairman said this while on air, on Friday, April 19.

He noted that the exercise which will be carried out 2-3 times weekly, will be kick-started from Akwa Ima estate in Uyo capital city and will continue at Shelter Afrique, Ewet Housing and other estates and residential quarters within Uyo metropolis; adding that 250 receptacles were already on ground to ensure the success of the said objective.

Prince Ikim however stressed that the Agency is not working under the Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources, although it does enjoy a robust partnership with it. He said that the Agency was under the Office of the Governor, and is thus, working for the entire state.

He acknowledged reports on the heaps of refuse at Mbak junction, Iya road by Akpan Andem Market, and Nasarawa road close to AKTC park, maintaining that intervention measures were being put in place to correct them.
