A’Ibom Assembly Considers Reconstruction of Abandoned Inter-state Bridge

At the sitting of the Akwa Ibom State Lawmakers on Tuesday, April 23, an agreement was reached to intervene in the reconstruction of an abandoned bridge linking Ibesikpo Asutan and Nsit Ibom local government areas.

This was as a result of a motion raised by the member representing Ibesikpo Asutan state constituency, Hon. Aniekan Uko, who harped on the deplorable condition of the bridge and the movement barrier it has caused people of Ikot Mbang and Ndikpo Atang communities in Ibesikpo Asutan, as well as with Ikot Abasi Ufat and Afia Nsit Atai communities in Nsit Ibom.

The project which got a seconding motion from the member representing Onna state constituency, Hon. Nse Essien, and forwarded to the House’s joint committees on works and NDDC for in-depth study, is said to have been abandoned by previous governments and is currently in an advanced state of disrepair.

In a related development, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. (Barr) Onofiok Luke, inaugurated an 8-man committee the same day, to look into preparations for a valedictory session which will mark the end of the Sixth Assembly.

Chaired by the Chief Whip, Emmanuel Ekpenyong and the Deputy Leader of the House, Hon. Ime Okon as deputy chairman; the Speaker charged the committee to see to the seamless organization of the event, adding that the Assembly would officially complete its four-year tenure in June 7, 2019.
