2020 Press Week Awards: Akwa Ibom NUJ Calls for Entries

Ahead of its upcoming press week scheduled for December, 2020, the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has called for entries from members for the professional Awards.

According to a release issued Secretary of the 2020 Press Week Planning Committee, Comrade Nsikak Okon, entries are to be addressed to the Secretary, 2020 PRESS WEEK Planning Committee and submitted before October 30, 2020 at Administrative Office of the State Council Secretariat, Information Drive, Uyo.

Categories to apply for are: Best Reporter of the year, Best Crime/Investigative reporter of the year, Best Feature Writer of the year, Best Columnist of the year, Best Sports Writer of the year, Best Legislative Reporter of the year, Best Newspaper of the year, Best Broadcast Station of the year (Radio), Best Broadcast Station of the year (TV) and Best Information Officer of the year.

The release instructs that interested applicants should note that “Columnists/feature writers must show evidence of consistency by presenting articles published on the column /media between October 2019 and September 2020; entry must include original and three photocopies (Print), One typed manuscript and two soft copies in CDs of all broadcast entries (Electronic)”, all sealed in envelopes with their entry category clearly marked at the top right corner as 2020 Award Entry.

It further informs that “all entries must have been published or aired not later than September 30, 2020. Each participant is allowed ONE entry”.

Meanwhile, activities marking the 2020 NUJ Press week had earlier been released.

The weeklong activity would commence with a Church service on Sunday December 6, followed by an impactful lecture on Monday, December 7.

Wednesday December 9 is fixed for sports where members will have time to engage other sister unions in a friendly football match among other games like volleyball, table tennis and scrabble, to be preceded by a visit to the less privileged homes on Tuesday, December 8.

The Activities will be rounded off with a dinner and award night scheduled to take place on Friday, December 11 at the Emerald Event Centre along 4lanes Edet Akpan Avenue, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
