A Non-Governmental organization in the east of Nigeria, has called on the Federal Government to look into youth empowerment in other to arrest the spate of suicide among youths in the country.
The group – Good Governance Ambassadors of Nigeria (GOGAN) – made the appeal through its Anambra chapter Chairman, Mr. Johnbosco Onunkwo, at a capacity building workshop in Awka, tagged “Rededicating Our Youths to Rediscover their Root.”
Onunkwo told the youths that suicide was not an option to depression, disappointment and frustration, adding that it only brings pain and stigma to friends and family members of the deceased.
He also charged the youths to be hardworking and committed to diligence and continuous learning. This, he said, would equip them for future leadership both in their areas of jurisdiction and the country at large.
While he called on President Muhammadu Buhari to proffer lasting solutions to the trending suicide menace by providing adequate employment opportunities for the youths, he noted that the solution to unemployment was not only a government responsibility, and urged well-to-do Nigerians to join in the building of industries for the teeming Nigerian youth.
