June 12 Replaces May 29 as Democracy Day

A new date has been passed into law for the celebration of Nigeria’s Democracy Day by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The President, on Monday, June 10, signed the June 12 Bill into Law cancelling the observation of May 29, the former Democracy Day.

Disclosing this on behalf of the Federal Government, Mrs. Georgina Ehuriah, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, stated in a Press Statement that the new date replaces the old and will be observed annually as a public Holiday.

She called to remembrance the sacrifice of the heroes of democracy and prayed Nigerians to imbibe their patriotic attributes; while wishing Nigerians a peaceful and safe stay at home, during the democracy day celebration.
