Six Dead as Farmers, Herdsmen Clash in Ogun

A disagreement between farmers and herdsmen in the Iwoye area of Imeko-Afon Local Government Area in Ogun state, has resulted in the death of 6 persons.

An eyewitness reports that the duel started when the herders made their cattle drink water from the community stream and got it polluted.

When challenged by one of the villagers, the herdsman shot his challenger dead.

This kindled the anger of the community and they mobilised for a reprisal attack on the herdsmen.

While the policemen were trying to get on the perpetrators, the herdsmen opened fire from an ambush they laid and killed one of the civilian accomplices of the policemen, Kabiru Ogunrinde, injured the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) and an Inspector. gathered that the state Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, who visited the town soon after the incident, met with stakeholders and discussed with them, the need to ensure peaceful coexistence amongst themselves and especially, with the herdsmen around them.

He said the state Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, had visited the scene and investigation commenced to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Reacting to the incident, the Ogun State Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Opeyemi however, attributed the cause of the incident to the herdsmen who invaded the community and escaped after causing havoc.

He advised the community to eschew trouble and maintain peace while they continue with their investigations.
