Man in Court for Impersonating Lawyer

A certain Charles Nwadiani is facing a six-count charge in a Magistrate Court in Lagos for allegedly claiming to be a Lawyer.

The 42-year-old resident of Lagos was on Monday, August 7, charged of resisting arrest, impersonation, forgery and obtaining under false pretences.

At the Ikorodu Magistrates Court, the Prosecutor, ASP. Gbemileke Agoi, informed the court that the accused committed the offence at 19, Lajo St., Igbogbo Town in Ikorodu, in 2017.

The Prosecutor detailed further that the accused presented himself to one Shamsodeen Ali as a lawyer and has been extorting money from unsuspecting members of the public through this title. also gathered that the accused as well presented himself in some instances as a Special Adviser to Rauf Aregbesola, the former Lagos State Works Commissioner, and used forged business documents to operate an illegal law office at Igbogbo.

Agoi also added that Nwadiani collected the sum of N1.45 million from his victim, with a promise to provide him legal services.

In her judgement, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs F.A. Azeez, granted Nwadiani bail of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum, after the Prosecutor had found the Defendant’s act to have contravened several sections of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The case was adjourned till Oct. 22, 2019 for mention.
