Makinde Vows to Probe Ajimobi’s Last-minute Contracts

The Oyo state Governor-elect, Seyi Makinde, has disclosed that every contract the outgoing governor Abiola Ajimobi awarded after the March 9 governorship election, will be subjected to rigorous probe.

In a release made available to newsmen by the spokesman of the governor-elect, Dotun Oyelade in Ibadan on Sunday, Makinde stated that “events of the past two weeks have shown characteristics of targeted contract awards that were compiled in a haste and randomly awarded to empty government purse before the May 29 swearing-in date.

“While the government remains in place till May 28, awarding a N30 billion new set of contracts in one day as was the case during last Wednesday’s executive meeting was curious and an aberration, especially when debts, as old as 2011 are left unpaid,” he said.

The governor-elect pointed out that information from civil servants who have the interest of the state at heart suggested a grand plan to disrupt the smooth take-off of the incoming administration by mopping up all available funds.

According to the statement, Makinde vowed that civil servants who conspired with the outgoing administration on illegal and strange contract awards would blame themselves in a matter of weeks.
